DENVER (KDVR) — The Colorado Rockies are worth over a billion dollars, but based on a new Forbes study, that’s not a lot of money when it comes to major sports teams.
Forbes released a list of the most valuable baseball teams in 2025, with the New York Yankees topping the list as the first MLB team to reach over $8 billion. This achievement comes three years after the NFL and one year after the NBA. Meanwhile, the report noted that MLB team values are also rising to a record average of $2.6 billion.

Another losing season? Rockies tied for worst World Series odds
While many baseball teams are worth billions, Forbes said there are “reasons for concern” among teams, especially among clubs that aren’t increasing their worth over the year, including the Rockies.
Rank: Most valuable baseball teams in 2025
Here’s how much each team is worth:
New York Yankees – $8.2 billion
Los Angeles Dodgers – $6.8 billion
Boston Red Sox – $4.8 billion
Chicago Cubs – $4.6 billion
San Francisco Giants – $4 billion
New York Mets – $3.2 billion
Philadelphia Phillies – $3.1 billion
Atlanta Braves – $3 billion
Houston Astros – $2.8 billion
Los Angeles Angels – $2.75 billion
St. Louis Cardinals – $2.55 billion
Texas Rangers – $2.45 billion
Seattle Mariners – $2.2 billion
Toronto Blue Jays – $2.15 billion
Washington Nationals – $2.1 billion
Chicago White Sox – $2 billion
San Diego Padres – $1.95 billion
Baltimore Orioles – $1.9 billion
Athletics – $1.8 billion
Milwaukee Brewers – $1.7 billion
Arizona Diamondbacks – $1.6 billion
Detroit Tigers – $1.55 billion
Minnesota Twins – $1.5 billion
Colorado Rockies – $1.475 billion
Cleveland Guardians – $1.4 billion
Pittsburgh Pirates – $1.35 billion
Cincinnati Reds – $1.325 billion
Kansas City Royals – $1.3 billion
Tampa Bay Rays – $1.25 billion
Miami Marlins – $1.05 billion
Despite hitting a new record of 100 losses in one season and finishing the first and second-worst seasons in history, the Rockies have had consistent Colorado fans. However, the Rockpile show outs still aren’t enough, as the Rockies are still ranking as one of the least valuable teams in the MLB, based on the Forbes study.

Doyle and Farmer help the Rockies beat the Rays 2-1
Forbes said some clubs have significantly increased their value, like the A’s, with a 50% increase in worth. Yet, there are four teams with a flat year-over-year, including the Cardinals, Mariners, Rays and Rockies.
According to the study, baseball’s overall growth is lagging behind other major sports teams due to factors like the media rights landscape, the lack of a true salary cap and labor uncertainty.
