The North Country baseball and softball Falcons were both in the Division I Quarterfinals over the weekend, with the girls heading over to face BFA on Friday and the boys hosting Colchester on Saturday.
Try as they might, neither team would advance to the semifinals.
Let’s take a look at what happened.
ST. ALBANS–The 8th seeded Falcons traveled to take on the top-ranked BFA Comets on Friday afternoon, and this one would be all BFA,
The Comets scored 9 times in the first inning, and that would be more than enough to secure the win.
“Losing is essential to anyone’s success,” said Falcons coach Victoria Brigham. “This loss just pushes the girls to continue working (in the) off season and come back next season ready to play. We truly had such a great season, and I enjoyed the time with these girls. Wishing our seniors good-luck in their next adventures!”
North Country’s two runs were scored in the 5th and 6th innings.
The first run came about when Grace Lombardi singled and came around to score on a double by Olivia Geoffrey.
In the sixth Gaby Griffith, Randi Fortin, Lillie Tetreault, and Lombardi all singled, with Grace driving in Randi for run number 2.
Makenna Bean took the loss for the Falcons.
North Country finishes the year with a record of 7-8 (1-1), and they will look to build on that next season.
NEWPORT–The largest turnout for a North Country baseball game in recent memory, or as long as this scribe has been at this post, turned out to see the #4 Falcons take on the #5 Lakers of Colchester on Saturday.
If there were two words to describe Saturday’s game, they would be Jackson Pecor.
Pecor got the start for the Lakers, and he was masterful, as he pitched four innings of one-hit ball before giving way to Vinny Wagoner in the fifth.
That lone hit belonged to Logan Cross, who ripped a single in the bottom of the third.
As for the Colchester offense, their big inning was in the 2nd, as they batted around and then some, scoring 10 runs in the process.
The Falcons used three different pitchers, as Tristan Leblanc got the start and took the loss.
Preston Humphrey and Zak Fortin would take it the rest of the way.
“The 2025 season finally came to an end and it wasn’t exactly how you’d draft it up,” said Falcons coach Mike LaCourse. “There were many positives to draw from this season, that I can’t help but feel excited for the future. So much success from such a young team and from many different players. Our maturity showed at times tonight, but that will improve with time. I hate to see our seniors go, but I’m confident they will continue to have success and will be forever thankful they were able to mentor our younger players.”
The Falcons wrap up their season with a record of 13-3 (1-1), and they have a strong foundation to build on for next season.
