DENVER — Pete Alonso wasn’t satisfied just tying for second place on the Mets’ all-time home run list Sunday, so he claimed the spot for his own.

The sizzling first baseman had already homered once to tie David Wright with 242 homers as he approached the plate in the eighth inning at Coors Field.

Two pitches later he was ahead of Wright, with only Darryl Strawberry remaining ahead of him.

Alonso and Jeff McNeil each blasted two homers on a day the Mets totaled six in a 13-5 demolition of the Rockies that completed a series sweep.

Alonso was a beast on the seven-game road trip, delivering five home runs and 15 RBIs.

The Mets, who went 5-2 on the trip, moved 18 games above .500 — matching their high point from last season, when it took them until Sept. 22 to reach that level.

The Rockies, on the other hand, fell 41 games below .500 as they continue their descent toward unseating last season’s White Sox as the worst team in major league baseball’s modern era.

It was the White Sox, with 121 losses, who cast aside the 1962 Mets for that distinction. The Rockies are on pace for 132 losses.

Alonso, with his 23rd career multihomer game, moved ahead of Strawberry as the all-time Mets leader in that category.

Alonso needs nine homers to match Strawberry at 252 for most in franchise history.

McNeil’s first homer of the game gave the Mets a 1-0 lead in the second inning.

McNeil culminated a 10-pitch at-bat with a shot that cleared the right field fence.

The Mets added another run in the inning on Francisco Alvarez’s RBI single after Ronny Mauricio had singled and Tyrone Taylor walked.

Alonso jumped on a first-pitch cutter from Chase Dollander in the third inning and launched a two-run homer to left field that extended the lead to 4-0.

It was homer No. 16 this season for Alonso and tied him with Wright at 242 for second in Mets history.

Taylor’s RBI double in the third extended the Mets lead to 5-0.

Mauricio, who singled and stole second, scored the run.

McNeil’s three-run homer in the fourth buried the Rockies in an 8-0 hole.

After Juan Soto and Alonso each singled with two outs, McNeil crushed a 97 mph fastball from Juan Mejia for his sixth homer this season.

The Rockies didn’t get a hit against Tylor Megill until the fifth inning, when they scored twice against him. Megill, at 82 pitches, was removed after the inning.

Overall, he allowed two earned runs on three hits with five strikeouts and three walks.

Brett Baty delivered a two-run homer in the seventh that gave the Mets a 10-2 lead.

McNeil doubled leading off the inning for his third hit of the game.

In the eighth, Soto walked to reach base for the fifth time before Alonso homered over the left field fence.

Soto walked in the ninth for a sixth time reaching base.

Alvarez homered in the ninth to give the Mets a 13-3 lead.

Paul Blackburn worked the final four innings in relief and surrendered three earned runs.

The right-hander returned from the injured list last Monday, when he pitched five shutout innings against the Dodgers, but the Mets afterward reverted to a five-man rotation, pushing Blackburn to the bullpen.

Blackburn on this day received the save.
