Right-handed pitcher Matt Sauer is with the Los Angeles Dodgers in Miami, per Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic.

Sauer would only be eligible to be called up if someone was placed on the injured list since he was sent down within the last 15 days.

The Dodgers are in the midst of a 10 games in 10 days stretch, and have already heavily taxed their bullpen.

On Monday, the team used seven pitchers, with right-handed pitcher Ben Casparius pitching the “bulk innings” with four.

Then, on Tuesday, the Dodgers used six pitchers, with starter Tony Gonsolin going five innings.

Wednesday is a scheduled bullpen game, but L.A. called up right-handed pitcher Landon Knack to pitch a bulk of the game. With Sauer in town, though, it appears someone is going on the IL. Sauer was optioned a week ago, so he’s ineligible to join the active roster without an injury.

Sauer can also provide length, as he pitched five shutout innings against the Marlins last week on April 29. That was Sauer’s last pitching appearance at any level, so he would be ready to piggyback with Knack to potentially save the rest of the Dodgers bullpen ahead of a four-game series with the Arizona Diamondbacks beginning Thursday.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts discussed his bullpen leading the league in innings after Tuesday’s game, saying it was “not sustainable.”

“It just seems like certain guys – and I could go back on each starter – but you’re still trying to manage their health and … [be] mindful of the innings that the bullpen is taking on and trying to stagger as much you can, and manage leverage and all that stuff,” Roberts said.

“Absolutely not, we (don’t) want to lead the league in bullpen innings.”
