Jonathan Mayo took the reins last Thursday for the weekly MLB Pipeline mock MLB Draft, and his selection for the Dodgers’ first pick at 40th overall is Alex Lodise, a junior shortstop at Florida State.

On Monday, Carlos Collazo at Baseball America unveiled another mock draft, with Louisville pitcher Patrick Forbes going No. 40, nothing the Dodgers have “continued to scout him heavily.” Forbes was linked to the Dodgers in a previous BA mock draft, and we wrote him up in May.

As for Lodise, the Seminole shortstop hit .394/.462/.705 with 17 home runs, 18 doubles, and six steals in 58 games. On March 25 against Florida, Lodise hit for the cycle, with his fourth hit a walk-off grand slam.

Baseball America has Lodise ranked as the 26th-best prospect in the draft. His cousin Kyle, a shortstop at Georgia Tech, is ranked No. 56 by BA.

MLB Pipeline ranks Alex Lodise No. 45 in the draft:

He’s showing the ability to make a lot of impact, and added strength to his frame has helped him find more power with the ability to hit the ball out to all fields. Even with his incredible production, there are some holes in his swing, and he’s shown a tendency to chase, especially on breaking stuff, and while he improved from last year, there are still concerns with his strikeout rate.

The 2025 MLB Draft is a three-day affair in Atlanta that starts on July 13. The Dodgers will have four picks in the first night of the draft, which runs through the end of the third round. In addition to picking 40th, the Dodgers also have the 41st pick, which was acquired in January from the Reds for Gavin Lux.
