Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register offered an update on injured Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Tony Gonsolin.
Recent news came out that Gonsolin was dealing with an elbow issue — something no pitcher wants to face. The right-handed hurler had battled arm issues before, and recently returned to the field after a lengthy recovery from Tommy John surgery in 2023.

As Plunkett detailed in speaking with manager Dave Roberts, the Dodgers may have dodged a major bullet for now.
“The UCL is intact … which is great news,” Roberts said. “He’s going to be down from throwing. I don’t know when that is going to be again. I think the main takeaway is the UCL is intact.”
There’s some speculation as to why Gonsolin is dealing with elbow pain. Chief among the guesses include scar tissue from the past elbow surgery and possible joint inflammation.
“I think probably all of the above,” Roberts said. “I don’t know if there was a specific incident or if it was just the buildup of throwing.”
For right now, Gonsolin likely will go through a period where the goal is to get the pain calmed down. Scans indicate no real issue, which means the pain could be managed with rest and recovery.
Gonsolin joins a very crowded list of pitchers currently on the IL for various reasons. Despite the patchwork nature of the rotation, which seems like fitting Tetris pieces at this point given the availability and absences of pitchers on a near daily basis, it’s astounding the Dodgers are still atop the NL West.
Gonsolin has provided the Dodgers with some quality innings thus far in 2025. On the year, the 31-year-old is 3-2 with a 5.00 earned run average. The numbers are a bit misleading. Gonsolin has 38 strikeouts in 36 innings pitched. He’s also allowed only 33 hits on the season.
