{KXLG – Watertown, SD} Kaden Rylance and Talan Jurgens delivered dominant pitching performances as Watertown Post 17 swept a doubleheader against the defending South Dakota American Legion champion Renner Post 307 on Monday night at Watertown Stadium.
Rylance, a South Dakota State recruit, pitched a complete game in the Arrow’s 1-0 Game One victory, striking out an impressive 12 batters. He allowed just four hits over 100 pitches and recorded 21 outs. Markus Pitkin drove in the game’s lone run with an RBI single in the first inning.
Jurgens, who is set to attend Dakota State in the fall, mirrored Rylance’s performance with a complete game in Game Two, leading Post 17 to a 2-1 win. He allowed five hits and struck out four. Nash Berg singled in a run in the first, and Hayden Ries scored on a Renner error in the third.
With the sweep, Watertown’s record improves to 9-1 (20-13 overall). The team will travel to Sioux Falls East on Wednesday for a doubleheader at 5 and 7 p.m.
