The FSU Seminoles are once again expected to have several players taken in the MLB draft, but two of their prospects are in a tier of their own. Pitcher Jamie Arnold is in the mix to be a top 10 pick and shortstop Alex Lodise is trying to make the first round.
With the 2025 MLB draft just over a month away, Carlos Collazo of Baseball America has released a new mock draft of the first 40 picks and has both Arnold and Lodise being taken. He has the Miami Marlins taking Arnold with the No. 7 overall pick, although he mentions him as a possibility at picks 2-6.
“Arnold has seemingly lost a bit of steam compared to Kade Anderson and Liam Doyle, but he was lights out vs. Oregon State in the super regionals, striking out out nine in 6.2 innings and racking up plenty of whiffs with his plus slider. He shouldn’t fall too much further than this if he gets here,” he said.
Arnold had an excellent junior season for the Seminoles, headlining their starting rotation. The lefty finished with an 8-2 record and a 2.98 ERA. In 84.2 innings, he recorded 119 strikeouts against 63 hits and 27 walks, holding opponents to a .208 batting average.
If the projection holds, Arnold would be the highest drafted Seminole since Buster Posey went 5th overall to the San Francisco Giants in the 2008 MLB draft. Arnold is looking to become the first FSU pitcher drafted in the first round since Luke Weaver in 2014.
Lodise was one of the best players during the season, and Collaza has the Baltimore Orioles taking him with the No. 31 pick in the draft, which is a compensation pick between the first and second rounds. He is a finalist for the Golden Spikes Award after hitting .394 with 17 home runs, 18 doubles, 68 RBI, and 62 runs.
He has also excelled in the field, making just five errors in 216 chances and having a .977 fielding percentage. He has helped turn 34 double plays and consistently made high-level plays to rob opposing teams of hits and runs.
FSU has not had a shortstop drafted since 2019, when Mike Salvatore went to the Seattle Mariners with the 276th overall pick. Lodise is looking to be the highest drafted FSU shortstop since Stephen Drew went to the Arizona Diamondbacks with the 15th overall pick in the 2004 draft.
The 2025 MLB draft will take place in Atlanta, Georgia, and last from July 13-14. The Seminoles had two first-round picks last year in James Tibbs III and Cam Smith.
