The Washington Nationals have claimed right-handed pitcher Ryan Loutos off waivers from the Los Angeles Dodgers, the team announced Tuesday.

Loutos was designated for assignment by the Dodgers last week. However, he didn’t make it through waivers and will now join Washington.

Loutos first appeared in MLB last June, making just three appearances with the St. Louis Cardinals.

Amid the constant injuries hampering the pitching roster, the right-hander was acquired by the Dodgers from St. Louis last month for cash considerations after the Cardinals previously designated him for assignment.

In a pair of appearances in a Dodgers uniform, the 6-foot-5 Loutos had an abysmal showing. Across three total innings for L.A., the right-hander allowed five earned runs.

During his time in Triple-A in the Dodgers organization, it was a completely different story.

Through seven outings in Oklahoma City, Loutos had a 1.69 ERA across 10.1 innings of work. He tossed nine strikeouts to four walks.

Since Loutos didn’t clear waivers, he will head to the Nation’s Capital and join a Nationals bullpen that needs assistance. The Nationals have the fifth-highest collective ERA in baseball this season with a 4.89 mark.

Loutos has a four-seam fastball that is his most-used pitch, being hurled 29.3 percent of the time. The heater has an average velocity of 95.1 mph, which is slightly above the league-average fastball.

As the 26-year-old right-hander writes the next chapter of his baseball journey, he will look to have an outcome closer to what he achieved in Triple-A with the Dodgers as opposed to his MLB showings with L.A., and continue to develop his game in D.C.
