Red Sox’s Trevor Story Reacts to Rockies Terrible Start originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The Boston Red Sox, back in 2022, brought in shortstop Trevor Story in free agency. Story signed a huge six-year, $140 million contract with the Red Sox in 2022. There’s a player opt-out after 2025, but Story is unlikely to opt out following lackluster seasons in Boston.

Story left the Colorado Rockies, his former team of six years, and joined the Red Sox. The writing was on the wall when Story left Colorado, and the Rockies slowly turned into a team at the bottom of the standings every year.
In an article from Andy McCullough of The Athletic, Story reacted to the Rockies’ terrible 2025 MLB season, where Colorado took the fewest games to reach 50 losses than any team in MLB history. His response was telling in numerous ways.
“You want to see them do well, and it’s tough to see how it’s going right now.” Story said. “Yeah, it’s hard. Don’t necessarily want to speak on anything further than that.”
While Story left the Rockies, he still feels for the people he knows within the organization; otherwise, he wouldn’t say he wishes the team would do well. However, the more telling part of his response is his final line.

Not wanting to comment on the Rockies’ poor start further implies that there is still some bad blood or feelings that Story has with the organization in a negative light. With the Rockies, Story played six seasons, made two All-Star teams, and won the Silver Slugger twice.

Despite putting together a solid resume for the Rockies, he left in free agency the first chance he got—that decision from Story points towards his feelings about the Rockies organization.
Story, while feeling bad for the team and its personnel, seems to have strong opinions about the current state of the team. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have mentioned not wanting to “speak further than that.”
That implies that he has more to say, but is keeping it to himself. With how other former Rockies players view the organization, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Story had some bad feelings with his former team.
While no longer a member of the Rockies, looking from afar, Story feels bad for the team. However, Story also has bitterness over the Rockies organization. While he didn’t elaborate, his answer showed an inkling that Story doesn’t view the Rockies organization highly.
