The Los Angeles Dodgers have recalled right-handed pitcher Matt Sauer from Triple-A Oklahoma City ahead of Tuesday’s game against the San Diego Padres.

Sauer was already in San Diego with the Dodgers before the organization officially added him to the roster. The 2017 second round draft pick is expected to pitch Tuesday against the Padres.

In a corresponding move, the Dodgers designated right-handed relief pitcher José Ureña for assignment. Los Angeles signed the 11-season MLB veteran as a free agent from the Toronto Blue Jays on June 3.

Ureña allowed four hits and one run while throwing two strikeouts and one walk in three innings with Los Angeles. The Dodgers are the third team Ureña has played for this season.

Sauer has made seven appearances and one start at the MLB level since Los Angeles signed him to a minor league contract in January. The Dodgers included him on the travel roster for the Tokyo Series, and this MLB stint marks his fifth call up this season.

Sauer made his debut with the Dodgers on April 7 against the Washington Nationals, posting a 3.05 ERA and 13 strikeouts across his seven appearances.

In the minor leagues, Sauer has primarily pitched as a starter this season, recording five starts over six appearances.

He has accrued a 3.97 ERA while throwing 20 strikeouts and just three walks in Triple-A this season. Additionally, Sauer has allowed 23 hits, 10 runs and two home runs.

The influx of pitching injuries in Los Angeles is forcing the Dodgers to look to the minor leagues for help.
