In news that the Philadelphia Phillies absolutely did not need, Brandon Marsh left Tuesday’s game against the Chicago Cubs with left elbow soreness.

One night after ending the Phillies’ seven-game losing streak with a walk-off single, Marsh began Tuesday with a second-inning single and stolen base attempt. Marsh hurt his left arm sliding into second base but remained in the game.
Marsh continued his mini-hot streak with a double off Cubs starter Colin Rea. However, Johan Rojas replaced Marsh in center field in the sixth inning.
Interestingly, several Phillies fans and reporters initially speculated on social media that Harper hurt his left hand or wrist. The club only referenced Marsh’s elbow when announcing his injury, though it’s unknown if he also hurt his hand or wrist.

It was unclear as of publication if Marsh will need further testing or, potentially, an injured list stint. The veteran outfielder owns a .241 average and .686 OPS for the second-place Phillies.

The Phillies are already without All-Star first baseman Bryce Harper, who hit the IL last weekend with right wrist inflammation. Starting pitcher Aaron Nola is out indefinitely with a stress reaction in his right rib cage.
The Phillies blew a 4-3 lead and lost 8-4 on Tuesday night, falling to 38-29.
