As the top prospect in baseball, the Red Sox are naturally hoping Roman Anthony will evolve into their next star player.

On Tuesday, Anthony notched his first career hit, a two-run double, that pushed Boston past Tampa, 3-1 on Tuesday

April 20, 1939 vs. New York — Against Red Ruffing of the Yankees, Williams hit a two-out double in the fourth inning in his second plate appearance of the game.

Carlton Fisk

Sept. 12, 1971 vs. Tigers — Fisk first came up and played two September games in 1969 and was a combined 0-for-6. He didn’t return to the majors again until 1971 when he was a September call-up. He was hitless in his first four games, but he broke through with a solo home run in the third inning off of Les Cain for his first home run.

Carl Yastrzemski

April 11, 1961 vs. Kansas City Athletics — On Opening Day of his rookie season against the A’s, Yaz had a line drive single to left in the bottom of the second against Ray Hebert in his first career plate appearance. The A’s catcher that day was Haywood Sullivan, who went on to be a part-owner of the Red Sox.

Jim Rice

Aug. 21, 1974 vs. Chicago White Sox — In his second game after being called up, Rice singled leading off the bottom of the fifth against Wilbur Wood to help support Roger Moret’s one-hitter.

Fred Lynn

Sept. 15, 1974 vs. Brewers—In Lynn’s fourth game after a September call-up in 1974, he led off the top of the second with a home run off Jim Slaton that his the right field foul pole.

 “It was a home run off Jim Slaton in Milwaukee,” Lynn said on Boston Baseball History. “What a thrill. I’ll never forget it.”

Sept. 17, 1972 vs. Indians — In his second career game, Evans was a ninth-inning pinch-hitter for Red Sox pitcher Gary Peters. Against Hall of Famer Gaylord Perry, he had a line-drive single to left.

Wade Boggs

April 26, 1982 vs. Chicago White Sox – A year before Richard Dotson won 22 games, he gave up a single to Wade Boggs leading off the top of the eighth. Boggs, who had 3,010 career hits, went on to score the winning run.

Babe Ruth

Oct. 2, 2014 vs. Yankees — In the third game of his career, he had a double to right leading off the seventh off of King Cole.

Tony Conigliaro

April 16, 1964 vs. Yankees —The beloved Red Sox slugger singled to left off future Hall of Famer Whitey Ford in the top of the sixth inning at Yankee Stadium

Nomar Garciaparra

Sept. 1, 1996 vs. Oakland — The beloved Red Sox shortstop’s first career hit was a solo home run in the top of the fourth off of former Boston gopher-baller John Wasdin.

June 29, 2014 vs. Yankees — The much-anticipated outfielder singled to center in the top of the fourth off of Chase Whitley.

Xander Bogaerts

Aug. 24, 2013 vs. Dodgers — After coming in on a double shift to replace current Red Sox Chief Baseball Officer Craig Breslow, Bogaerts singled to right in the ninth.

May 23, 1996 vs. Mariners — Over a decade into his career, Roger Clemens singled up the middle vs. Norm Charlton, a year and a month after striking out 20 Mariners. He also earned a complete game win that night.
