Chilton’s backs were to the wall and they were facing a quick ouster from the WIAA baseball playoffs.
But a sixth inning rally gave the Tigers a 3-2 win over upset-minded Mishicot in a WIAA Division 3 regional semifinal game Wednesday at Chilton High School.
Mishicot’s Nolan Sand took a no-hitter and a 2-0 lead to the sixth when Chilton started its comeback.
Peyton Juckem, enjoying a good game himself as Chilton’s starting pitcher, broke up Sand’s no-no with a leadoff single. Slaytt Nolan then drew a walk and a Michael Vanden Heuvel bunt moved up both runners.
Hudson Ludwig walked to load the bases. With Bennett Woelfel at the plate, Juckem would score on a Sand wild pitch. The following pitch got away from the Michicot catcher allowing Nolan to score and tie the game on the passed ball. On a 3-2 pitch, Woelfel then stroked a single to score Ludwig with the eventual winning run.
Juckem would strike out Bennett Grossheim and Christian Henning before running into the pitch count rule. He gave way to Ludwig who came on to strike out Eli Skarda to preserve the win and earn a huge save.
