BOSTON — Manny Rodriguez, one the Rays’ top relievers, will be sidelined for at least two weeks due to a right forearm strain.

Rodriguez, 28, has made a team-high 31 appearances this season, often in high-leverage situations and serving as the set-up man to closer Pete Fairbanks.

Over 30⅓ innings, Rodriguez has posted a 1-2 record and 2.08 ERA with 25 strikeouts and six walks.

Rodriguez last pitched Monday; his placement on the 15-day injured list is backdated to Tuesday.

Right-hander Cole Sulser, who was optioned to Triple-A Durham on Sunday, was recalled to take Rodriguez’s spot on the active roster. In 10 games for the Rays, Sulser has a 2-1, 3.09 record.

Rodriguez’s late-inning duties seem likely to be shared by Edwin Uceta, who had that role primarily last season but has been inconsistent this year, and Kevin Kelly.
