I remember you gave our son *** baseball years ago when he was *** little boy, all part of the Padres comprehensive ballpark ministry. The Lord readings. Father Bill also celebrates Mass before every Sunday home game. Play by play announcer Greg Brown. May the people praise you, oh God. May all the peoples praise you. Among the Pirates attendees as well as members of the opposing teams. This is overwhelming. Pirates Padre serving all. I have *** relationship with every person that I’ve ever come here come here with. They have made the ministry. Really vibrant reality of how we should be with everyone. He blesses everyone regardless of their faith. I do *** lot of ministry here with them issues of words, uh, death, murders, problems at home, children, confessions, the anointing of the sick, um. You know, you name it, and uh basically I’ve done it here. You’re *** busy padre. I love it. Little Bill Schwartz helped his Mount Washington Little League team capture the championship back in 1953, *** student athlete who also loved serving mass at Saint Mary of the Mount Parish. My dad’s my dad’s mom would say to me, you know what, you’re either *** church or in you’re you’re playing baseball. His mother battled cancer when Father Bill was *** child, passing away when he was just 14, greatly influenced by witnessing his parents’ love for family and for God and how his grandfather stepped in to help, Father Bill would later give up baseball for the seminary and was ordained *** priest in 1968. But what would you think your mom and dad would be saying and looking down on you? Oh, looking down there saying look at this, it’s my, my little one, my dad and mom and my grandpas, they are just like. There’s no words to explain. His family devotion, the heartbeat of his ministry, demonstrating we are family style love. The pirates honoring Father Bill, now in his fifty-eighth year of priestly service with *** home plate ceremony, but the humble Pirates Padre says this relationship with the team is *** two-way street. They’ve made me *** better. Person and *** better priest, you can see the goodness and you let you affirm them for what they’re doing. 10 years ago, Father Bill got tired of fans booing third baseman Pedro Alvarez when he struggled. I would get grab *** little piece of scrap paper and I would write *** little note and let him know I gave it to someone in that camera well to give to him. He has every one of those notes. Really, I walk. Other players become family. Former pirate pitcher Trevor Williams and his wife Jackie asked Father Bill to be their son Jude’s godfather. They got together when Williams, now pitching for the Washington Nationals, came to town. And then he said, You’re not driving. He said he had an Uber or *** Lyft come out and pick me up and bring me and I said, My lord, I never had one of these in my life. Father Bill told me he hopes everyone on the North Shore knows how much joy they have given him. And while the 82 year old priest doesn’t know how many more years, he’ll be serving as the pirate’s Padre. I’m taking his position when he’s not here, peanuts, popcorn, crackerjack, and shrimp cocktail. He says the Buckoes’ return to the playoffs is not too far away, so you’re confident that we’re going to win. Oh yes, you have that on good authority? I have *** real good authority, yes, because I told him I’m not leaving this world until I have *** World Series. He’s gonna get that ring.
