ST. MICHAEL — Mankato East girls track and field athlete Rylie Hansen won the state title in the long jump, while East boys athlete Carter Schwartz won state in the shot put at the Class AA meet at St. Michael-Albertville on Wednesday.
Hansen won the long jump with a leap of 19-foot-1 3/4, while Schwartz took the shot put at 56-11 1/4.
In the girls meet, West’s Leila Pratt took third in the high jump at 5-4, while Madison Harbarth took second in the wheelchair discus at 30-10.
In the boys meet, East’s Audi Thom took ninth with a time of 9:27.21 in the 3,200, while St. Peter’s Brock Guth took third in the pole vault at 14-0.
In the Class A meet, Mankato Loyola/Cleveland’s Charlotte Meyer took fifth in the girls 3,200 with a time of 11:20.49, while the Crusaders’ Soren Kelly finished fifth in the boys 3,200 at 9:42.62. St. Clair/Immanuel Lutheran’s Kate Daly took third in the girls high jump at 5-04.
Golf
Class AAA: Mankato East boys golfer Carter Dean finished tied for 27th at the state tournament at Bunker Hills Golf Club in Coon Rapids.
Dean shot a two-day score of 150, finishing five strokes away from 5th place.
Baseball
New Ulm Cathedral 6, Russell-Tyler-Ruthton 2: Jake Finstad had two hits and an RBI for the second-seeded Greyhounds in their Class A tournament win on Wednesday at Joe Faber Field in St. Cloud.
Elijah Rieser had two hits and two runs scored for Cathedral, while Colin Anderson started on the mound and allowed just one earned run over four innings.
Cathedral will play South Ridge in the Class A semifinals at 9:30 a.m. Thursday.
Perham 2, Maple River 0: Gavin Halvorson allowed just two runs and struck out six in a complete game for the seventh-seeded Maple River baseball team in a loss to second-seeded Perham in the Class AA quarterfinals at Dick Putz Field in St. Cloud.
Halvorson and Wyatt Walters each had hits for the Eagles.
Maple River plays Pierz at 9:30 a.m. Thursday in a loser’s bracket game.
