NJ.com | Max Goodman: Giancarlo Stanton is in the midst of a rehab assignment with Double-A Trenton, and while he could be activated for this weekend against the Red Sox it may be more likely we see him rejoin the team next week. This does finally bring us to talking about the playing time puzzle we knew was coming. Ben Rice and Paul Goldschmidt are both managing wRC+s north of 130, which is about what we can expect Stanton to do as well. This does make them somewhat interchangeable when talking about the DH slot, but one way or another the Yankees are forced to leave a talented hitter on the bench. For what it’s worth, Jack Curry mentioned the club could try starting Ben Rice at catcher, a position he generally only gets during blowout games.
New York Post | Greg Joyce: Jazz Chisholm Jr. was booed at Kauffmann Stadium like the hunter that shot Bambi’s mom, and had a light dustup with Maikel Garcia to boot on Tuesday night. Chisholm Jr. slid headfirst into third base on a steal in the sixth, before taking both the ball and Garcia’s glove dotted him in the head. The Yankee third baseman left the game with neck tightness, and had some choice words for the onfield performance of his Kansas City counterpart.
The Athletic | Chris Kirschner ($): Clarke Schmidt was on the bump last night in KC, and while I don’t yet know how he pitched at time of writing, I do know what he does when he’s not pitching. Schmidt gives Athletic subscribers a look into his life when he’s not pitching. Pitchers are creatures of habit, and while I don’t know I’d want to be around Clarky on game days, he seems fun enough the other four days.
