ANGOLA — The national champion Trine University softball team received plenty of awards along its postseason journey.

The 46-5 Thunder had three NCAA Division III All-Americans from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association. Senior pitcher Alexis Michon and sophomore first baseman Tyra Marcum of Goshen made the First Team. Junior pitcher-designated player Debbie Hill made the Second Team.

Trine second baseman Whitney Duell was a finalist for NFCA Division III Freshman of the Year. That was won by Swarthmore (Pa.) pitcher Lilly Goldberg.

The Thunder coaching staff was named Region VII Coaching Staff of the Year by the NFCA for the third straight season. Donnie Danklefsen just finished his 21st season at the helm and was joined by veteran pitching coach Dennis Smith and first-year Trine assistant coach Zech Huston.

Michon and Marcum made the NFCA All-Region VII First Team. Hill, Duell, junior outfielders Karley Trine and Emma Lee, and junior third baseman Macy Rocha made the all-region Second Team.

In the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association, Michon was the conference’s Most Valuable Pitcher and Karley Trine was picked the MIAA’s Most Valuable Position Player.

Michon, Trine, Marcum, Rocha and senior shortstop Emma Beyer was picked to the All-MIAA First Team by league coaches. Hill and Lee made the Second Team.

Michon went 26-1 with a 0.75 earned run average and three saves this past season. The right-hander won her last 26 decisions of the season after taking the loss in the Thunder’s season-opening game against Linfield (Ore.) in Columbus, Ga.

In 168 and one-third innings pitched, Michon allowed 83 hits and 21 runs (18 earned), struck out 209 and walked only seven batters. Opponents hit .142 against her. Michon also had a 0.53 WHIP (walks and hits per innings pitched).

Marcum led the Thunder in batting average at .416 (64-154), and also had a .992 fielding percentage, only making two errors in 252 fielding chances. She 19 home runs with 56 runs batted in, 43 runs scored and 10 doubles. She had a .500 on-base percentage and an .877 slugging percentage for a 1.377 OPS.

Hill hit .383 (51-133) with 21 homers, 68 RBIs, 38 runs scored and 11 doubles. She tied for third in the country in NCAA Division III in both home runs and RBIs.

Hill walked 44 times to help her lead the team with a .533 on-base percentage. She slugged at a .940 clip and had a 1.473 OPS.

Pitching, Hill was 13-2 with a 3.83 ERA. She allowed 100 hits in 95 innings, struck out 92 and walked 15.

Trine hit .388 (45-116) with four home runs, 25 RBIs, 21 runs scored, 12 doubles and four triples. She had a 1.098 OPS and a .980 fielding percentage with one error in 49 fielding chances and one outfield assist.

Lee hit .369 (55-149) with six homers, 39 RBIs, 48 runs scored, 33 stolen bases and nine doubles. She made no errors in 64 fielding chances with one outfield assist. She was also never thrown out attempting to steal this spring.

Rocha batted .392 (58-148) with 10 homers, 50 RBIs, 10 doubles, 33 runs and 21 walks. She had a .471 on-base percentage and a .676 slugging percentage for a 1.147 OPS. She also had a .931 fielding percentage at third base with five errors in 72 chances.

Duell hit .363 (61-168) mainly out of the leadoff spot for the Thunder. He shared the team lead in runs scored with 48 and was second on the team in hits with 61. She had 21 RBIs, 13 stolen bases and eight doubles. She had a .969 fielding percentage with only four errors in 130 fielding chances.

Beyer hit .324 (46-142) with three homers, 31 RBIs, 31 runs, and 26 stolen bases. She also played a solid defensive shortstop, especially in the postseason. She had a .929 fielding percentage.
