Phillies Listed as Potential Trade Destination for Orioles’ All-Star Cedric Mullins originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

The Philadelphia Phillies are in the midst of a tough 10-game stretch, dropping eight games during that span. The recent slump has cost them ground in the National League East. Now sitting in third place in the NL Wild Card race, it is clear the roster needs improvement. Although injuries to starting pitcher Aaron Nola and first baseman Bryce Harper may have the team rethinking their trade deadline plans, the outfield should still be their number one priority.

One name gaining traction as a potential target is Baltimore Orioles outfielder Cedric Mullins. According to Bleacher Report’s Kerry Miller, Mullins could draw significant interest from contenders, including the Phillies.

“If Mullins comes back and looks like the All-Star who had a 30/30 campaign in 2021, though, that’s a drastically different story. With a pro-rated salary of slightly less than $3 million for the final two months of the season, he could well become the most coveted rental on this year’s trade block—especially with the Mets, Phillies, Guardians, and perhaps a few others interested in adding a center fielder this summer,” Miller wrote.

Despite a modest .227/.318/.438 slash line, Mullins has provided pop and speed. He is one of six centerfielders to hit 10 home runs this season and is one of six centerfielders to pair double-digit home runs with 30+ RBIs. Not to mention, Mullins has swiped eight bases this season.

While Mullins will not directly change the course of the Phillies’ season overnight, he can provide an instant threat at the top or bottom of their lineup, strengthen their defense, and give a more consistent presence in the outfield. As of now, only one Phillies outfielder is slugging above .430, and one of them has more than seven home runs. Mullins tops Philadelphia’s outfielders in both categories.

If Philadelphia is serious about patching holes and making a deep postseason run, Mullins should be at the top of their trade targets.
