CLEVELAND, Ohio — Catcher Dom Nunez’s first trip to Cleveland was short, but at least it was productive.

The Guardians optioned Nunez to Triple-A Columbus on Thursday in anticipation of activating catcher Austin Hedges from the seven-day injured list for player’s with concussion symptoms. The move to activate Hedges is not expected to be made official until Friday when the Guardians open a three-game series against Seattle at T-Mobile Park.

Nunez joined the Guardians from Columbus on Friday after Hedges was placed on the IL. On June 4, Hedges was catching Emmanuel Clase in the ninth inning at Yankee Stadium, when Jazz Chisholm Jr. hit him in the head with his back swing.

Hedges, with a history of concussions, was placed on the IL after that.

Nunez appeared in two games for the Guardians, hitting .286 (2 for 7). He had two of Cleveland’s 13 hits in Wednesday’s 11-2 win over Cincinnati.

In 32 games at Columbus, Nunez is hitting .136 (14 for 103) with six home runs and 16 RBI. The Rockies drafted him in the sixth round in 2013.
