Following the blockbuster trade for Kyle Tucker with the Houston Astros during the offseason, the Cubs have undergone a complete transformation.
For Jed Hoyer, whose job could be on the line over the next few months if he doesn’t figure out what to do at the deadline, it’s important that he remembers the move he made that helped his team more than anything has in recent years.
However, when speaking on MLB Network, it didn’t sound like Hoyer had many big plans for the trade deadline. It’s important that he doesn’t go into the deadline looking at it this way, as the Cubs still have plenty they need to improve on.

“I think we’re not quite in trade season yet, but as I’ve said, I think pitching is the most obvious thing we’ll look to add, look to continue to add depth in the rotation and in the bullpen,” Hoyer said. “Our position playing group so far has been really good.”

While the offense has been better, that was a concern entering the year.
The Cubs have swung it well, but could be one wrong move or one injury away from not playing the way they have to start the year.
When also factoring in the injuries they’ve faced on the mound, it’s important for Hoyer to understand that he needs to be aggressive. Even if he has to move on from some of his top prospects, that’s what has to be done.
