It wasn’t even a Mets home run that fired up Brandon Nimmo.
On Tuesday, Nimmo watched Washington’s CJ Abrams take a low-and-away fastball from Griffin Canning and lift it the opposite way. Playing left, Nimmo ranged back — and back and back — and then leapt at the wall, a couple feet too short to rob what became a fifth-inning home run.
After the frame, Nimmo jogged back to the dugout and saw Clay Holmes and A.J. Minter sitting next to each other.
“Hey, boys,” Nimmo announced to the first-year Mets who had not been properly acquainted with the whims and seasons of Citi Field. “You know that time I was talking about? It’s here.”
