Pittsford Mendon baseball coach Shaun Caveny likes to say how the Vikings are rewriting the team’s history the further the ballclub moves into the postseason.
The Vikings are now one win away from the Class A state championship after defeating Rye of Section I, 7-2, in a state semifinal at Morabito Stadium in Binghamton.
Defeat Maine-Endwell of Section IV during the final June 14 at SUNY Binghamton, and the Pittsford Mendon Vikings win the first state championship in team history.
Mendon, a team that won its first Section V championship since 2001, knocked off the No. 1 ranked team in the state.
