CINCINNATI (WKRC) – The Cincinnati Reds have acquired right-handed pitcher Brian Van Belle from the Boston Red Sox in exchange for cash considerations. Van Belle, 28, was designated for assignment by Boston on June 10 and has been optioned to AAA-Louisville.
The Reds’ 40-player roster is currently at capacity.
Van Belle had spent his entire professional career with the Red Sox organization after signing as a non-drafted free agent on June 16, 2020. Over parts of five seasons, he pitched in 115 games, including 84 starts, with 55 appearances and 29 starts at AAA-Worcester.
In 2023, Van Belle led all Red Sox farmhands in innings pitched with 141.1, while also tying for the lead in both starts, with 25, and wins, with 11.
