MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – Alabama State University’s Randy Flores became the first Hornet to be drafted since 2018 on Monday.
Flores became the 232nd overall pick when the Los Angeles Angels selected him in the eighth round of the MLB Draft.
“I am extremely proud of the hard work Randy has put in to make the dream of playing professional baseball come true,” Alabama State University Head Baseball Coach Jose Vazquez said. “He has always represented ASU well and deserves this opportunity. The Angels are getting a future star.”
Flores started in 114 games for the Hornets with a career batting average of .338, 159 hits, 119 runs scored, and 20 home runs. He was a two-time All-SWAC selection during his time at ASU, leading the conference in hits with 74.
