Video: Oregon State pitcher Dax Whitney on College World Series opener

Oregon State pitcher Dax Whitney and coach Mitch Canham talk about the Beavers’ College World Series win over Louisville.

Make it 25 consecutive wins for Coastal Carolina baseball.

The Chanticleers moved one win away from the national championship on Sunday, June 15, following its 6-2 win over Oregon State in the second round of College World Series. Coastal Carolina has yet to lose since April 22, going undefeated at the Sun Belt tournament and NCAA tournament so far.

Coastal Carolina received a huge performance from ace pitcher Jacob Morrison, who moved to 12-0 on the year after allowing one run on five hits with seven strikeouts across 7 2/3 innings. Morrison retired 16 batters in a row after allowing a solo home run in the third inning.

The Chanticleers will now wait to find out their opponent, which will be the winner of Oregon State and Louisville, who eliminated Arizona on Sunday.

Here are the top plays from Coastal Carolina’s 6-2 win over Oregon State in the College World Series on Sunday, June 15:

Ryan Lynch enters out of the bullpen with two outs and strikes out Canon Reeder to end the game. Make it 25 consecutive wins for the Chanticleers, which is one win away from the national championship series.

Coastal Carolina is for real.

Gavin Turley leads things off for Oregon State with a home run to left field, which cuts Oregon State’s deficit to 6-2 in the bottom of the ninth inning. The Beavers still have a lot of work to do, though.

Zach Edwards fires his second scoreless inning in relief for the Beavers, striking out two hitters in the top of the ninth inning.

Oregon State needs a big rally here, trailing 6-1 in the bottom of the ninth inning.

Before Canon Reeder’s single in the bottom of the eighth, Coastal Carolina’s Jacob Morrison had retired 16 consecutive batters, which occurred after he allowed Oregon State’s lone run of the game on a solo home run.

Aiva Arquette makes loud contact with two out and runners on in the bottom of the eighth inning, but Blagen Pado makes an unreal sliding catch down the right-field line to get the Chanticleers into the ninth inning unscathed.

What a play in a big moment.

The Beavers put runners on first and third with two outs after leadoff hitter Trent Caraway singles to center field.

That’s also going to do it for Jacob Morrison, whose night ends after allowing one run on five hits with seven strikeouts across 7 2/3 innings. Morrison delivers in one of his best outings of the season and lowers his ERA on the year to 2.08 after the outing.

Coastal Carolina is turning to left-hander Hayden Johnson, who has a 3.03 ERA in 32 2/3 innings this season. Johnson is entering to face Oregon State’s best hitter in Aiva Arquette.

Jacob Morrison tosses another scoreless inning for Coastal Carolina, putting him through the seventh inning while allowing one run on three hits. Morrison is up to 94 pitches, but the Chanticleers might opt to keep him in the game with how he’s dominating right now.

Coastal Carolina and Oregon State can’t get much going in the sixth inning, as the score remains 6-1 heading into the top of the seventh.

Jacob Morrison is pitching a gem for the Chanticleers, with one earned run on three hits with five strikeouts so far.

Coastal Carolina still leads 5-1.

Another blunder by Oregon State leads to a Coastal Carolina run, as Ethan Kleinschmit throws a wild pitch that scores Wells Sykes from third base to give the Chanticleers a 5-1 lead.

Coastal Carolina with a solid lead heading into the bottom of the fourth inning.

An error by AJ Singer at second base leads to another run for Coastal Carolina, as the Chanticleers extend their lead to 4-1. Caden Bodine hits a ground ball that goes straight through Singer’s legs, as Singer was aiming to turn a double play.

Jacob Morrison bounces back nicely after allowing the solo home run, getting Oregon State’s 1-2-3 hitters all out after the home run from Easton Talt.

Oregon State gets on the board in the bottom of the third inning after 9-hole hitter Easton Talt launches a home run over the right-field fence.

Beavers trail 3-1 now.

Oregon State hits a two-out single against Jacob Morrison but otherwise gets nothing going in the bottom of the first inning. Coastal Carolina still leads 3-0.

Colby Thorndyke comes up big, with a bases-clearing double to right-center field to give Coastal Carolina an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning. The Coastal Carolina challenge on the Blagen Pado hit-by-pitch turns out to not matter.

Bladen Pado initially appears to be hit by a pitch, but umpires rule after review that he leaned into the pitch. Coastal Carolina still has bases loaded but with two outs now.

Ethan Kleinschmit walks back-to-back Coastal Carolina hitters to load the bases with one out in the top of the first inning. Chanticleers looking to take an early lead here.

Coastal Carolina leadoff hitter Caden Bodine hits a hard groundball to the shortstop, but Aiva Arquette’s throw to first base isn’t hauled in. Bodine reaches first base to lead off the game, and the first winner’s bracket game of the CWS is underway.
