CLEVELAND, Ohio — José Ramírez is in a familiar spot, on top among American League third baseman following the initial release of balloting totals for the 2025 MLB All-Star game. Ramírez holds a comfortable lead of more than half a million votes at third base over Boston’s Alex Bregman in phase one of fan voting on MLB.com.

Ramírez, a six-time All-Star and three-time starter at third, is joined by Guardians teammate Steven Kwan, who seeks to make the AL roster for a second time after he was voted a starter in his only trip last year. Kwan ranks fourth among AL outfielders, a scant 17,383 votes behind Mike Trout.

Carlos Santana (8th at first base), Daniel Schneemann (9th at second base) and Bo Naylor (10th at catcher) were the only other Guardians players among the top ten at their positions following the first week of voting. The top two finishers at each position (top six outfielders) will advance to phase two of voting after polls close at noon on June 26.

Yankees slugger Aaron Judge leads all major league players with more than 1.56 million votes while Dodgers two-way star Shohei Ohtani tops all National League players with 1.39 million.

Ramírez ranks in the top five in the AL in batting average, slugging percentage, OPS and steals while ranking seventh in slugging percentage. Kwan is 10th in total hits and batting average and leads all AL defenders with six outfield assists.

Judge is tied for the Major League lead with 26 home runs this season and could become just the fourth player since 1970 to lead MLB in voting at least three times, joining Ken Griffey Jr., Rod Carew and Ichiro Suzuki.

Ohtani leads the NL with 25 home runs. The four-time All-Star and three-time MVP is aiming to become the first player since Griffey to lead both leagues in voting during his career.

Fans are able to submit up to five ballots daily on MLB platforms. The top two vote-getters at each position (and top six outfielders) in each league will advance to the second phase of voting, with the overall leading vote-getter in each league receiving an automatic starting assignment.

In the American League, Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh ranks second overall with 1,043,168 votes. Detroit’s Gleyber Torres leads second basemen, while Oakland rookie Jacob Wilson tops shortstops. Yankees newcomer Paul Goldschmidt holds a slight edge over Toronto’s Vladimir Guerrero Jr. at first base, while Baltimore’s Ryan O’Hearn paces designated hitters.

In the National League, Cubs outfielder Pete Crow-Armstrong ranks third overall with 1,126,119 votes, leading a group that includes teammate Kyle Tucker and the Dodgers’ Teoscar Hernández. The Dodgers’ Freddie Freeman tops NL first basemen, while Arizona’s Ketel Marte leads second basemen for the second straight year. The Mets’ Francisco Lindor paces shortstops, San Diego’s Manny Machado leads third basemen, and the Dodgers’ Will Smith tops catchers.

The 2025 MLB All-Star Game will be hosted by the Atlanta Braves, whose star outfielder Ronald Acuña Jr. currently ranks sixth among NL outfielders.
