After their run to the 2024 World Series, the Yankees parted ways with infielder Gleyber Torres, who mostly struggled at the plate and in the field in his 2024 walk year.

Torres, who stated he never received a contract offer from the Yankees, signed a one-year, $15 million contract with the gritty Detroit Tigers, who were coming off a surprise run to the ALDS in 2024.
In lieu of direct revenge on the Yankees, Torres has instead shown out for his new team in 2025.

Torres has slashed .276/.377/.419/.796 in 2025, and in the first updated All-Star ballot update, Torres is leading American League second basemen in All-Star voting.
Torres, who collected 535,079 votes, leads Baltimore’s Jackson Holliday by about 86,000 votes and Houston’s Jose Altuve by roughly 88,000 votes.

The 28-year-old Torres could likely not draw up a better revenge plan than what he’s doing right now.
Yankees manager Aaron Boone was already announced as the skipper for the American League when the two sides meet in Atlanta.
Boone likely resents the thought of Torres not just succeeding, but thriving with the best team in baseball, who also represent a major roadblock if the Yankees look to make it to the World Series for a second straight year.
Torres has cut down massively on his strikeouts, and is hitting for more power, and getting on base more for his new squad. Torres is a fixture at the top of the Tigers lineup, and deserves every bit of praise for what he’s done so far in 2025.
