NAPOLEON — The Wildcats scored six runs in the first inning and held off Delta for an 8-4 win in ACME baseball action Monday at Booster Field on the campus of Napoleon High School.

The Panthers scored a run in the top of the first inning, executing the double steal after Hunter Heinemann and Carlos DeSantos hit consecutive singles to put runners on the corners.

Napoleon later threw out DeSantos attempting to steal third to help get out of the inning without any more runs scoring.

The Wildcats answered in the bottom of the frame, scoring all six runs with two outs.

After back-to-back walks to start the inning, a sac bunt advanced the runners to second and third. Following an infield pop up, Trent Ehlers blasted a double over the left fielder’s head to score both runners.

Tucker Shepard followed with an infield single and Brody Thompson was hit by a pitch to load the bases. After a balk scored a run, Max Shadle singled home a run and Porter Rice capped the scoring with a two-run single for a 6-1 lead.

Napoleon added a pair of runs in the third inning, as Hunter Ehlers had a two-out single and Jax Rocha followed with a single. Ehlers scored on the play, as the throw to get him advancing to third was wild.

With Rocha now on second, Trent Ehlers singled home the Cats’ final run of the game.

That was plenty for Napoleon starter Paul Sausser, who went the distance and allowed four runs — one earned on six hits and two walks, while striking out six.

The Panthers scored a pair of runs in the fifth inning, as Jadon Lohman and Wyatt Flickinger each had an RBI double. Delta also scored an unearned run in the seventh inning to make the final score 8-4.

Trevor Rohrs led the Panthers at the plate, going 2 for 2.

Jackson Niner took the loss, pitching one inning and allowing six runs on three hits and two walks. DeSantos pitched three scoreless innings of relief to end the game for Delta.

DeSantos gave up one hit and four walks, while striking out nine.

Trent Ehlers and Shadle each had two hits for the Wildcats.

Napoleon plays host to Fairview for a doubleheader Thursday, with the first game starting at 5 p.m., while Delta hosts Swanton that same night at 6.
