With a showdown against Mediapolis for the SEI Super Conference South Division lead looming on the horizon, the Notre Dame High School baseball team made quick work of Highland.
The Nikes used a nine-run second inning to coast to a 14-1, five-inning victory over the Huskies in an SEI Super Conference crossover game on Monday at Winegard Field.
The Nikes pounded out eight hits in the game, including a home run by Eli Oleson and doubles by Kinser Tripp and Tatum Warner.
Maddox Diewold went 2-for-4, drove in two runs and scored two runs for the Nikes. Oleson went 2-for-3 and drove in five runs. Curtis Randall and Warner each scored three runs, while Landry Haberichter scored twice. Jeremiah Crow, Tripp and Garrison Reid each scored a run.
Crow, Haberichter and Tripp each had an RBI.
Isaac Lehman picked up the win. In four innings, he allowed five hits and one earned run, walked two and struck out three.
Tripp earned the save, fanning one batter in his one inning of work.
Notre Dame (7-4 overall, 6-2 South Division) played Class 2A’s sixth-ranked Mediapolis (14-1 (6-0) Tuesday at Mediapolis. The Nikes are scheduled to play at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Iowa City Regina, then host crosstown rival West Burlington at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Winegard Field.
