CINCINNATI (WKRC) – The Cincinnati Reds have lost an outfielder to the Seattle Mariners. Jacob Hurtubise, at one time a top-25 prospect in the organization, was designated for assignment on Saturday and claimed off waivers on Tuesday.

The 27-year-old was moved off the roster when the Reds claimed infielder/outfielder Ryan Vilade off waivers from the St. Louis Cardinals.

The undrafted free agent was promoted to Triple-A Louisville in 2023 and played in 29 Major League games last season. He had just 10 hits in 54 at-bats with 18 strikeouts, managing just two extra-base hits and four RBI. Hurtubise appeared in 12 more games for Cincinnati this season with one hit in 12 at-bats. He struck out six more times.

Hurtubise also hit just .144/.336/.186 in 133 plate appearances in Louisville this season.

Hurtubise will reportedly head to Seattle’s Triple-A team in Tacoma.
