The postseason for Iowa high school baseball remains about three weeks away, but brackets have been announced by the Iowa High School Athletic Association.
District first-round games for Iowa classes 1A and 2A are Saturday, July 5, with semifinals on Tuesday, July 8 and the championship game Saturday, July 12. The substate championship is Tuesday, July 15, with sites to be announced in most cases.
Atlantic competes in Class 3A, and that class along with Class 4A will be announced later. The post-season road in classes 3A and 4A begins Friday. July 11.
Here’s what’s going on for Iowa’s Class 1A; all semifinal and championship games are 7 p.m. unless otherwise noted:
SUBSTATE 7
This substate features Griswold and Riverside.
In District 13, Griswold will play Stanton in a 5 p.m. game at Audubon. The winner will travel to Martensdale to play Martensdale-St. Marys, the district’s top seed. The rest of the bracket has East Union vs. Murray, and Southwest Valley vs. Earlham.
Riverside is in District 14, with a battle of the Bulldogs on tap with Bedford, the top seed, on tap at 7 p.m. Sidney will play Mount Ayr at 5 p.m. The rest of the bracket has games at Lenox, with the Tigers vs. Essex and East Mills vs. Fremont-Mills.
SUBSTATE 8
Five teams are in this substate, divided between districts 15 and 16.
In District 15, Audubon and Glidden-Ralston will meet in a first-round game at Audubon at 7 p.m., the nightcap of a doubleheader with a District 13 game also on the schedule there. The winner will play the district’s No. 1 seed Coon Rapids-Bayard at Coon Rapids.
In a doubleheader at Anita, IKM-Manning will play Newell-Fonda at 5 p.m., while CAM takes on Ar-We-Va at 7 p.m. The winners will meet at the higher-seeded team’s home field, with a district championship spot on the line.
In District 16, Exira-EHK will travel to Logan to take on hosting Logan-Magnolia at 7 p.m., the nightcap of a doubleheader that’ll see Council Bluffs St. Albert take on Boyer Valley. The other half of the bracket is at Woodbine, with ACGC vs. AHSTW at 5 p.m., and West Monona vs. the host Tigers at 7 p.m. Logan-Magnolia is District 16’s top seed.
