Giants Turn Heads With Justin Verlander Announcement on Wednesday originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Justin Verlander’s career has been nothing short of remarkable since being selected second overall in the 2004 MLB draft. The 42‑year‑old right‐hander, who made his MLB debut just a year later in 2005 with the Detroit Tigers, has compiled over 3,400 innings pitched and recorded more than 3,000 strikeouts with a career ERA of 3.31.

A three‑time Cy Young Award winner and two-time World Series champion, Verlander has consistently demonstrated elite performance and durability across 20 seasons. Even at this stage of his career, his experience and veteran leadership serve as a valuable asset to any starting rotation.

The San Francisco Giants officially announced Wednesday that they activated Verlander from the injured list after suffering a right pectoral strain. The team’s starting catcher, Patrick Bailey, has also been reinstated following a brief stint on the injured list as well.
In a corresponding move, Logan Porter and Triston Beck have both been optioned to the Giants’ Triple-A affiliate team in Sacramento.
Giants fans reacted to the news of Verlander officially being reinstated from the injured list on X.

“Good to have the boys back!” a fan said.
Another replied, “Verlander W.”
One fan said, “Gotta give Verlander tons of support.”
“Beck has legit talent and will be back soon. He needs more time getting tuned up from the injury. Ready to see Verlander win 10 decisions in a row,” a fan said, referencing Tristan Beck being optioned in a corresponding move.
One surprised fan responded, “Kinda surprised they aren’t giving JV a rehab start somewhere but I guess the Harrison trade probably changed that.”
As the NL West race intensifies, San Francisco’s decision to bring Verlander—and fellow key player Patrick Bailey—back into the lineup comes at a pivotal time as they currently hold a record of 41-32, sitting 3.5 games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers and hold just a 1.5 game cushion in front of the San Diego Padres.
