Toronto Blue Jays star pitcher Max Scherzer is getting closer to his return to the show, as he continues his rehab work in the minors.

On Wednesday, the three-time Cy Young winner made another start for the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons against the Boston Red Sox affiliate Worcester Red Sox. And based on his performance in that contest, it appears that the 40-year-old hurler is ready to throw again in the majors.
In 4 1/3 innings of work against Worcester, Scherzer did not allow a run and only surrendered a hit while issuing a couple of free passes and striking out eight batters through 75 pitches in a 14-1 Buffalo victory.
It remains to be seen whether that was enough for the Blue Jays to unleash him again in the big leagues, but Toronto manager John Schneider seems sure that Scherzer’s confidence at the moment against any level of competition is through the roof.

“He always thinks his stuff is ready. It’s more the physical part with how he’s feeling during the outing tonight, tomorrow and the days in between,” Schneider said on Wednesday, per Keegan Matheson of MLB.com.

“That’s where we’ve landed with him. He thinks he can strike everybody out right now. Whether it’s seven in the morning or seven at night, he’s going to go after you.”
Scherzer, who inked a one-year, $15.5 million contract with the Blue Jays in January, has pitched in only one game so far in the 2025 MLB season as a thumb injury landed him on the 60-day injured list.
