Nate Dohm and Jack Wenninger were electric on Wednesday, Jett Williams keeps being a factor in games and St. Lucie made six errors in a close loss.

BOX SCORE

Syracuse scattered seven hits on the day but went 0-for-6 with RISP. Jakson Reetz is 3-for-20 in June, with two of those hits home runs. Luke Ritter is having his best month to date, slashing .293/.341/.439 even though his BB/K has taken a big dive with a 3/15 split.

RHP Frankie Montas (13.19 ERA) 5 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, 1 HR allowed (47 of 80 pitches for strikes)
RHP Dom Hamel (4.79 ERA) 2 IP, 2 H, 3 K

Frankie Montas’ struggles continued in what will likely be his final rehab start before he is activated off the IL. Montas has allowed eight home runs in 18 2/3 innings with 30 hits and 10 walks to 12 strikeouts across two levels. Dom Hamel pitched the final two innings and since he has become the swingman in Syracuse, his walks may have gone down but he is allowing a hit an inning.

Binghamton Rumble Ponies (43-20) 7, Harrisburg Senators (32-33) 3

SS Jett Williams – 1-for-4, 1 R, 1 SB (19), 1 BB, 1 K (.937 OPS)
CF Nick Morabito – 2-for-5, 2B, 2 R, 1 RBI (32) SB (24)(.785 OPS)
1B Ryan Clifford – 2-for-4, 1 R, 1 RBI (39), 1 BB, 1 K (.834 OPS)
3b Nick Lorusso – 3-for-5, 2 R, 2 RBI (28), 2 K, SB (5)(.736 OPS)
DH Kevin Parada – 1-for-5, 1 R, 1 RBI (32), 4 K (.707 OPS)

Jett Williams just continues to hit, get on base, and steal bases and today even threw in a solid defensive play to boot. D’Andre Smith is having a solid year under the radar on a loaded Binghamton team with a .735 OPS.

RHP Jack Wenninger (2.93 ERA) 5 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 3 BB, 8 K, 1 HR allowed (52 of 87 pitches for strikes)
RHP Douglas Orellana (2.03 ERA) 1 IP, 1 H, 2 K

Jack Wenninger has been in a groove this entire season, striking out at least five batters in all but two of his starts and doing so with great control. The Rumble Ponies’ pitching has been overshadowed by their offense, but their starters and bullpen have been great the entire season and that’s even with the turnover of pitchers getting promoted to Triple-A and promoted from High-A.

BOX SCORE

CF A.J. Ewing – 0-for-5, SB (32), 2 K (.812 OPS)
3B Boston Baro – 0-for-3, SB (9), 1 BB, 1 K (.601 OPS)
SS  Marco Vargas – 2-for-4, 2B, 1 R, 3 RBI (21) 2 SB (21) (.629 OPS)
1B Jacob Reimer – 1-for-4, 1 R, 1 K (.902 OPS)
RF Carson Benge – 0-for-3, 1 R, 2 BB (.909 OPS)
DH Eli Serrano III – 2-for-4, 2B, 2 R (.797 OPS)
2B Jesus Baez – 1-for-5 (.746 OPS)
LF Chris Suero – 2-for-4, 2B, 3B, 1 R, 1 RBI (39) (.830 OPS)

A.J. Ewing is in a bit of a slump in June, slashing .176/.382/.216 with his extra-base hits all but vanishing and an elevated strikeout rate being masked by his usually high walk rate. Despite that, Ewing has still stole nine bases in June. Boston Baro has been slowly improving offensively but had two errors on Wednesday as he has been juggling multiple positions so that the Cyclones can fit all of their bats in the lineup.

RHP Nate Dohm (1.64 ERA) 4 IP, 1 H, 2 BB, 8 K (41 of 67 pitches for strikes)
RHP Raimon Gomez (5.56 ERA) 2 IP, 1 H, 1 unearned run, 1 BB, 3 K
RHP Brian Metoyer (1.06 ERA) 1 IP, 1 BB, 2 K

Nate Dohm bounced right back after a subpar outing his last time to allow one hit over four innings while striking out eight hitters. Since his promotion to Brooklyn, he has a 1.64 ERA, with 29 strikeouts in 22 innings while only allowing 14 hits. Raimon Gomez has found his footing in Brooklyn it seems with another solid long relief appearance, striking out three hitters.

Low-A
St. Lucie Mets (34-30) 4, Palm Beach Cardinals (31-33) 5

BOX SCORE

St. Lucie committed six errors on Wednesday, with Trey Snyder accounting for three and Daiverson Gutierrez accounting for two. Gutierrez, who will play the entire season as a 19-year-old also hit a home run, his fourth of the season bringing his OPS to .713. The struggles of Simon Juan continue, as the once relatively high-ranked Mets prospect saw his OPS dip to below .600.

RHP Jose Chirinos (3.09 ERA) 3 2/3 IP, 4 H, 3 R (1 ER), 2 BB, 4 K (43 of 74 pitches for strikes)

The entire St. Lucie pitching staff was let down by its defense, as only one of the five runs that scored on the day was earned. Jose Chirinos was a little wild but managed to mitigate the damage he could by only allowing four hits and striking out four batters.
