The Pennsylvania State Baseball Coaches Association released its 2nd Annual All-State teams for all six PIAA classifications on Wednesday, and five players from the Tri-County Area garnered honors across three different classes.

That local contingent is headlined by a pair of First Team selections in DuBois Central Catholic senior Aidan Snowberger and Redbank Valley junior Braylon Wagner. The duo landed on the Class A and 2A First Teams, respectively, as pitchers.

Snowberger, a Second Team All-State selection at pitcher a year ago, closed out his Cardinals career with another standout all-around season.

The senior lefty went went 8-1 with a save on the mound, sporting a 0.89 era (7 earned runs) with 80 strikeouts and just 10 walks in 55 1/3 innings of work. He threw a perfect game against Elk County Catholic and no hit Brookville in the first five games of the season.

Snowberger also was the catalyst at the top of the lineup for a DCC squad that went 18-4 and won their second District 9 title during the Cardinal’s career.

He finished the season with a .381 average (24-for-63) with 7 doubles, one triple, 11 RBIs and 28 runs scored.

As for Wagner, a first-time All-State honoree in baseball, he too was pivotal two-way player. He proved to be the go-to guy both on the mound and at the plate for Redbank Valley squad that won a D-9 Class 2A title and made a run to the second round of states as part of a 15-9 campaign.

On the mound, Wagner went 8-1 with a 2.74 ERA, racking up an impressive 95 strikeouts while also walking 34 in 66 1/3 innings.

He also proved to be one of the top hitters in all of District 9, churning out 46 hits to post a .505 batting average while collecting 21 RBIs and scoring 35 runs. He smacked 15 doubles to go along with a triple and home run.

Beyond those two First Teamers, the Tri-County Area also had three Second Team selections in DuBois Central Catholic senior Brayden Fox (Class A outfielder), DuBois Central Catholic junior Carter Himes (Class A pitcher) and Punxsutawney junior Nevin Day (Class 4A pitcher).

Fox joined Snowberger in being the area’s lone repeat All-State picks and landed on the Second Team as an outfielder for the second year in a row.

Fox proved to be the Cardinals’ most productive hitter this season. He led the team in average (.397), RBIs (23) and doubles (11), tied for first in hits (25) and was third in runs scored (24)  while also playing strong defensively both in center field and first base when called upon.

He also went 2-0 on the mound, striking out 24 and walking just six en route to sporting a minuscule 0.42 ERA in 16 2/3 innings.

Himes joined his teammates as an All-State selection this year following a strong all-around season of his own.

He garnered Second Team honors as a pitcher for good reason, as the righty went 5-2 with 86 strikeouts and a 1.23 ERA in 51 1/3 innings. Himes allowed just nine runs, all earned, on the season while walking 21 batters.

Himes, who played shortstop when not pitching, also was a key bat for the Cardinals. He finished the season with a .373 average (25-for-83). He tied Fox for the team lead in hits and was second in RBIs (21), while also hitting two doubles and scoring 15 runs.

The area’s final All-State pick was Day, who took home Second Team honors in the mound in in Class 4A. And like the rest of the local payers who made All-State, Day was a key two-way player for his team as well.

The junior righty went 7-2 with a save and a 0.83 ERA in 59 innings of work. He struck out 51 and walked 17 while allowing just seven earned runs.

At the plate, Day was the top hitter for a Punxsy squad that went 17-5 and won yet another District 9 title to reach states for the fourth year in a row.

He lead the team in average (.355), hits (27), RBIs (23) and home runs (2) while also hitting a pair of doubles and scoring 13 runs.

The only other District 9 player to earn All-State honors this year was Coudersport senior Mason Roessner, who landed on the Class A Second Team as a utility player.

Snowberger and Fox, along with Punxsutawney senior Coy Martino, will also be playing in the inaugural Pennsylvania High School All-Star game being held Sunday at 12:30 p.m. at Penn State’s Medlar Field.

That event, sponsored by the State Baseball Coaches Association, will use an East vs. West format for the teams featuring top players from across the state who just graduated.Â
