The Dodgers selected the contract of RHP Jack Little and optioned RHP Emmet Sheehan. In order to make room on the roster, the Dodgers transferred RHP Tony Gonsolin to the 60-day injured list.

In order to make room on the roster, the Dodgers transferred right-handed pitcher Tony Gonsolin to the 60-day injured list. Gonsolin was sidelined by an elbow injury, which is especially concerning as the right-hander was coming back from Tommy John surgery.

It appears the right-hander won’t be returning to the rotation anytime soon as he goes to the 60-day IL. Prior to the injury, Gonsolin made seven starts for the Dodgers this season, producing a 5.00 ERA with 38 strikeouts and 1.417 WHIP across 36 innings.

It was reported earlier that Little had a locker in the Dodgers clubhouse so the roster move comes as no surprise. Sheehan was also seen packing up his stuff, signaling the right-hander would be returning to the minors for the time being.

Sheehan started Wednesday’s game against the San Diego Padres, and allowed one earned run on three hits. The right-hander threw six strikeouts and issued no walks, an impressive first outing since undergoing Tommy John surgery.

The Dodgers sending Sheehan down to the minors is surprising given his strong performance, but the 25-year-old will likely rejoin the big league team soon.

Little provides much-needed reinforcements to a depleted Dodgers bullpen. On Wednesday, the Dodgers used just two pitchers in the 4-3 walk-off win over San Diego. Sheehan pitched through four innings, and left-hander Justin Wrobleski tossed five frames in relief in order to spare the bullpen.

Little was with the Dodgers last weekend as part of the taxi squad, but was never officially called up. With Triple-A Oklahoma City this season, the right-hander is 3-2 with a 2.20 ERA, 33 strikeouts, and 1.16 WHIP across 26 games. He also has 10 saves in 11 opportunities.
