We’ve reached the final stretch, Dodgers fans. Part five will conclude this series of every Los Angeles Dodger currently in the MLB Hall of Fame in Cooperstown.
Tommy Lasorda 1977-1996
Tommy Lasorda enjoyed an excellent two-decade run at the helm as the Dodgers’ Manager from 1977-1996.
In that time, the Dodgers won two NL Manager of the Year awards (1983 and 1988), won the NL Pennant four times, and won two World Series in 1981 and 1988.
Lasorda also won 1599 games and is one of ten Managers with 13 or more World Series victories. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1997.
Fun Fact: Lasorda was one of the first Managers to socialize with his players off the field. He felt it strengthened the loyalty between player and manager, which is why many players enjoyed playing for him. Lasorda also made sure to know all of his players’ names, as well as their wives’ and children’s names.
Mike Piazza 1992-1998
Catchers aren’t typically celebrated for their offensive power, but Mike Piazza was a rare exception – a force at the plate. He smashed 427 career home runs, with a record-setting 396 of them coming while playing the catcher position.
To go with his 427 career home runs, he had 2,127 hits, a .308 batting average, won Rookie of the Year in 1992, made 12 all-star selections, won 10 Silver Slugger awards, and was an All-Star MVP in 1996. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2016.
Fun Fact: Piazza was an actor in the movie “Two Weeks Notice”. He also acted in other commercials and TV shows during the 1994-1995 MLB strike.
Adrian Beltre 1998-2004
Adrian Beltre is the most recent Dodger to get enshrined into Cooperstown, as he joined the elusive club in 2024.
He was one of the most potent batters during his era, with 477 career home runs, 3,166 hits and a 93.7 WAR. Beltre also made four All-Star selections, five Gold Gloves, four Silver Sluggers, and two Platinum Gloves.
He’s one of only 33 players to tally over 3,000 hits and one of only 38 players to hit 475 or more home runs.
Fun Fact: Beltre has contributed greatly to humanitarian activities in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.
Additionally, in 2021, he helped pay to reconstruct a baseball stadium back in his home country of the Dominican Republic, where he grew up playing.
