INDIANAPOLIS (WNDU) – The Kouts Mustangs came up short of winning their first ever state championship in baseball, as they lost to Indianapolis Lutheran 14-1 in the Class 1A state final at Victory Field on Friday evening.
It certainly wasn’t the outcome the top-ranked Mustangs (27-7) wanted or likely expected.
However, the unranked Saints (21-10) took an early 3-0 lead in the first inning, then added 11 more runs in the fifth and sixth innings to put the game out of reach and clinch their first baseball crown.
Kouts was held to just two base hits, both of which came off the bat of junior center fielder Jesse Overholt.
Still, the state runner-up finish is the best ever finish in program history for Kouts.
