Three Vols projected in first round after MLB combine

The 2025 MLB draft will take place July 13-14 at Coca-Cola Roxy in Atlanta, Georgia.

Liam Doyle, Gavin Kilen, Andrew Fischer, Dean Curley, Marcus Phillips, AJ Russell, Tanner Franklin and Nate Snead are former Vols expected to be drafted in 2025.

Eight former Vols were selected in the 2024 MLB draft: Christian Moore (Angels), Blake Burke (Milwaukee), Billy Amick (Minnesota), Dylan Dreiling (Texas), Drew Beam (Kansas City), Kavares Tears (San Diego), A.J. Causey (Kansas City) and Aaron Combs (White Sox).

MLB.com released a mock draft for the first round following the 2025 MLB draft combine. Below are 2025 MLB draft projections and excerpts for Tennessee players.

Liam Doyle

Team: Toronto

Pick: No. 8

Gavin Kilen

Team: Athletics

Pick: No. 11

“You don’t want to automatically give the A’s a college hitter, but they have recent history of drafting polished bats that reach the big leagues quickly.”

Andrew Fischer

Team: Cleveland

Pick: No. 27

“Fischer fits the kind of left-handed power bat the Guardians covet. He cranked 56 homers in his college career, including 25 for the Volunteers this spring.”
