Avon, N.Y. — Livingston County is embarking on a new chapter of inclusivity with the Mighties, a baseball team designed to give children with disabilities access to America’s favorite pastime.
Organized by Avon Youth Baseball, the team features 18 enthusiastic players, ranging from pre-K through 6th grade, hailing from nine towns across the region, including two players traveling in from neighboring Genesee County.
The team is supported by a dedicated group of 22 “Buddies” — volunteers aged 12 and older — who provide one-on-one assistance to players on the field, helping them run bases, swing bats, and most importantly, build confidence and friendships.
By creating the Mighties, Avon Youth Baseball aims to give every child the opportunity to be part of a team, to hear cheers from the crowd, and to celebrate their achievements on the field.
The games are held very Saturday throughout the baseball season at the Avon Driving Park beginning at 10 a.m.
