Watching West Coast baseball on the East Coast can be a grind. We’re in the middle of a heat wave in Boston, and if you don’t have air conditioning, or your dog is afraid of it like mine, you might want to hit the hay and fast-forward one day closer to normal temperatures.

If you’re locked in on the Boston Red Sox and need a little extra motivation to brave the heat and watch the game, placing a bet could be the spark you need, and Roman Anthony is in line to have a great game.

The Los Angeles Angels are starting Jack Kochanowicz on Monday. He’s 3-8 with a 5.38 ERA so far this season. His arsenal also plays right into Anthony’s strengths. Against left-handed hitters like Anthony, Kochanowicz has thrown 44% sinkers, primarily targeting the outside part of the plate. He also uses a changeup that he throws away from lefties frequently.

Although a very limited major league sample, Anthony has already shown an ability to hit the ball to all fields. His first major league hit came on a changeup off the outer part of the plate. He reached out and swatted the ball down the left field line. His first career home run also came on a sinker away from him.

If Kochanowicz takes that game plan into Monday’s showdown, Anthony should be prepared to handle it. The Angels also don’t have many impactful lefties in their bullpen. Brock Burke pitched Sunday and has struggled in back-to-backs, while Reid Detmers has been saved for high-leverage innings, regardless of the matchup.

For that reason, I’m backing Roman Anthony To Record 2+ Total Bases on Monday.

Buyer beware, though. Anthony has shown great patience at the plate, and Kochanowicz has struggled with walks. Walks don’t count towards total base wagers, so if you’re worried about the free pass, stay away from this one.
