MILWAUKEE, Wis. — It was a big night for Milwaukee Brewers shortstop Joey Ortiz.
Ortiz smacked two home runs, as he helped Milwaukee breeze past Pittsburgh 9-3.
Ortiz opened the scoring with a two-run home run to give Milwaukee a 2-0 lead. Third baseman Caleb Durbin whacked a three-run home run to left and Ortiz added his second home run of the night to put the Brewers up 6-0.
Milwaukee was able to tack on a run in the fifth on a wild pitch by Pirates RHP Michael Darrell-Hicks.
The Pirates were able to get on the board in the top of the sixth on a three-run homer by second baseman Nick Gonzales.
Milwaukee tacked on a couple of more runs in the bottom of the eighth on a fielder’s choice by Ortiz, and a single to right by right fielder Sal Frelick.
Brewers starter Freddy Peralta got the win as he went five innings, allowed three runs, gave up seven hits, and struck out eight.
Pirates starter Andrew Heaney took the loss, as he only went four innings, gave up seven earned runs, and struck out three.
A big matchup is coming to Milwaukee tomorrow, as Brewers star pitcher Jacob Misiorowski is set to face off against former number one overall pick Paul Skenes at 1:10 p.m.
