Right after smashing the veteran Germán Márquez, the Dodgers will face someone the Rockies hope can one day lead a turnaround in fortune for starters at the unfriendly confines of Coors Field, youngster Chase Dollander.

It hasn’t been smooth sailing for Dollander this year, far from it, but for who has it been that on a team yet to win 20 games. One must account for the fact Dollander didn’t get much experience in the minors, selected in the first round of the 2023 draft as a college arm. After spending 2024 between Triple-A and Double-A, Dollander only got four innings in minor league ball this season before getting called up.

Although the season numbers paint a pretty nasty picture, the Dodgers meet Dollander in his finest moment of the year, coming off back-to-back quality starts against the Braves and Nationals. Still, there are two concerning points to highlight: first, both were pitched on the road, and second, Colorado failed to win either game, scoring a combined four runs in the two losses. Facing off against the Dodgers ace in Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Dollander’s margin for error diminishes even further. This will also be the first time Dollander faces Shohei Ohtani and company.

For Yamamoto, this will only be his second experience in Coors Field, having pitched there in his final regular season outing of 2024, delivering five innings of two-run ball in a blowout Dodgers win.

A trip to Coors Field always presents the opportunity for certain struggling hitters to find their footing, and we saw a bit of that in Tuesday’s game. Two-thirds of the lineup managed to get multiple hits, including the likes of Mookie Betts and Teoscar Hernández, who haven’t really been that productive in June, far from it. Not to mention the crucial three-run shot from Michael Conforto, who has been the biggest disappointment for this offense so far in 2025.
