Rangers 7, Orioles 0

So that’s two days in a row that the Rangers had a no hitter through six innings.
And in this game the Rangers actually had a no hitter through seven innings.
It was hard to imagine that Jacob deGrom would be able to match, much less top, the greatness of the immortal Jacob Latz, but somehow he did it.
So yeah, Jacob deGrom retired the first 18 batters he faced, and really didn’t seem to break a sweat doing it.
deGrom didn’t even get to a three ball count on a batter until the 17th batter he faced, when he got to 3-2 on Dylan Carlson before striking him out.
deGrom struck out seven and walked two, the two walks both coming in the seventh inning, the first of which was a 3-2 walk to Jackson Holliday. The one hit was a not real well hit roller in the hole between first and second by Colton Cowser to lead off the 8th. The hit ended deGrom’s night though, with Texas up 7-0, deGrom wouldn’t have still been out there but for the no hitter.
Baltimore’s xBA, per Statcast, was hovering around .100 while deGrom was in the game. Jacob Webb and Cole Winn held Baltimore hitless in their two innings of work. Baltimore’s xBA of .117 on the night is tied for the 14th lowest for any team in a game this team.
Per the broadcast, deGrom is also just the fourth pitcher aged 37 or older to hit 100 mph in the Statcast era. The others are Daniel Bard, Billy Wagner and Aroldis Chapman, all relievers.
I sit here and think to myself, Jacob deGrom is a Texas Ranger. Its pretty incredible.
Oh, yeah, the Rangers scored some runs, too. Seven, to be exact. Josh Jung homered for the first time in a long time. Jonah Heim homered. Marcus Semien had three hits. It was another nice offensive game, another game that hints that maybe the offense won’t be terrible going forward.
But I am too busy marveling at Jacob deGrom to think about that right now.
Jacob deGrom’s fastball topped out at 100.1 mph, averaging 98.4 mph. Jacob Webb touched 94.8 mph with his fastball. Cole Winn’s fastball hit 96.4 mph.
Josh Jung had a 106.4 mph single and a 100.1 mph home run. Alejandro Osuna had a 104.3 mph ground out, a 100.8 mph ground out and a 100.7 mph line out. Marcus Semien had a 102.7 mph double and a 101.9 mph single. Jonah Heim had a 101.8 mph homer. Sam Haggerty had a 101.2 mph ground out. Adolis Garcia had a 100.0 mph sacrifice fly.
And we get to go into an off day enjoying this lovely win.
