DuBOIS — Playing its third game in as many days thanks to a couple of rainouts and a suspended opener, the Brookville Major (Under-12) Softball All-Stars were knocked out of the District 10 Tournament with last Saturday’s 10-4 loss to DuBois at Heindl Field.
It was a 1-2 finish for Brookville, which played three games in as many days. It was supposed to open with St. Marys/Fox at home last Tuesday, but a rainout and move to Wednesday at St. Marys/Fox wound up as a suspended game with St. Marys/Fox leading 5-0 in the bottom of the third.
The conclusion of the game on Thursday finished with St. Marys/Fox winning 13-0 in four innings.
In Saturday’s loss to DuBois, the hosts were the visiting team that led 5-1 after three innings with DuBois scoring three runs in the third. Then a five-run fifth put the game away as it extended its lead to 10-1.
Avonlea Lewis and Chloe London both had two hits. Baelyn Stewart threw all six innings gave up six hits while walking eight and striking out 10.
Friday at Brockway, Brookville was holding on to a 2-1 lead before scoring six runs to break things open in the top of the sixth. Cora Kunselman singled in a run, Stewart doubled and Ainsley Straitiff singled in two runs to highlight the outburst.
Brookville took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second when London led off the inning with a double and score on Straitiff’s single. It went up 2-0 in the fourth when Lewis walked and came around to score on a throwing error.
Eight different players had hits in a nine-hit game as Straitiff singled twice and drove in three runs. Stewart and London hit doubles. Stewart got the win in the circle by tossing a one-hitter with 14 strikeouts and six walks.
After getting stopped in the third inning on Wednesday at St. Marys, Thursday’s completion started with a 20-minute delay. St. Marys/Fox got a two-hitter from pitchers Gia Straub and Chloe Carlson.
Straub started and gave up both hits with four strikeouts against no walks while Carlson struck out the side in the top of the fourth to secure the win.
St. Marys/Fox scored two runs in the first, three in the second and eight more in the third inning.
Kara Fleming and Maria Jovenitti both had two hits with Fleming hitting a double.
Brookville’s hits, both singles, came from Stewart and London. Stewart did the pitching, giving up seven hits and five walks while striking out six.
