In the second annual Pennsylvania State Baseball Coaches Association All-State teams announced last week, Redbank Valley junior Braylon Wagner earned a spot on the Class 2A team as a First Team pitcher.
While Wagner swung a big bat at the top of the lineup for the District 9 champion Bulldogs, it was his arm that got all-state notice.
On the mound, Wagner went 8-2 with a 2.74 ERA, racking up an impressive 95 strikeouts while also walking 34 in 66 1/3 innings.
Also a state qualifier in track and field this spring, Wagner proved to be one of the top hitters in all of District 9, churning out 45 hits to post a .523 batting average while collecting 21 RBIs and scoring 33 runs. He smacked 15 doubles to go along with a triple and home run.
Wagner goes into his senior season next spring with 99 career hits. He’ll also be looking at some other worthy milestones in two other sports as he heads into football with 6,932 passing yards along with 91 touchdown passes. Those marks currently rank 10th and fifth overall in District 9 football history.
In basketball, he’s within range of 1,000 points with 810.
Five other D9 players were recognized. DuBois Central Catholic had three players honored in Class 1A with First Team pitcher Aiden Snowberger, Second Team pitcher Carter Himes and Second Team outfielder Brayden Fox. Coudersport’s Mason Roessner was a Second Team utility selection.
In Class 4A, Punxsutawney’s Nevin Day was a Second Team pitcher.
