CLEVELAND, Ohio — The sooner Kyle Manzardo can forget the third inning in Thursday’s game against Toronto, the better.

Manzardo, starting at first base, tied a major league record by committing three errors in the third inning as the Blue Jays took a 3-0 lead over the Guardians at Progressive Field.

Jonatan Clase started the inning with a single off Tanner Bibee. Tyler Heineman, the next batter, was hit by a pitch.

Myles Straw laid down a sacrifice bunt that a charging Manzardo couldn’t handle. Straw reached first base safely as the Blue Jays loaded the bases.

That was Manzardo’s first error.

Bibee struck out Bo Bichette, but Nathan Lukes singled to right for a 2-0 lead as Straw went to third. Bibee attempted to pick off Lukes at first, but Manzardo didn’t catch the ball for his second error.

That allowed Straw to score from third. Manzardo scrambled after the ball, picked it up and made a wild throw home. Catcher Bo Naylor didn’t even see the throw as it went past him.

The wild throw allowed Lukes to go to second, which accounted for Manzardo’s third error.

Earlier this year Manny Machado, San Diego’s third baseman, made three errors in a game on May 21 at Toronto. The record is held by many.

Third baseman Andy Marte was the last Cleveland player to make three errors in one inning. Marte did it against Boston on June 10, 2010.

Cleveland shortstop Frank Duffy made three errors in the 11th inning against the Yankees on Sept. 24, 1972.
