CONWAY, S.C. (WPDE) — Coastal Carolina University’s (CCU) baseball team may have fallen just short of a national title, but its standout catcher, Caden Bodine, is receiving significant recognition for his exceptional performance this season.

Bodine was named the winner of the prestigious Buster Posey Award, which honors the best catcher in college baseball.

Bodine, who completed his final year with the Chanticleers, achieved a remarkable .998 fielding percentage and tied the program’s record for throwing out potential base stealers.

His defensive prowess contributed to Coastal Carolina boasting the second-lowest earned run average in the nation. Bodine started 66 of 67 games, showcasing his skills behind the plate.

In addition to the Buster Posey Award, Bodine was recognized as a D1 Baseball All-American, a Golden Glove Award winner, and the MVP in the conference tournament final.

“Congratulations to Caden Bodine on winning the Buster Posey Award, honoring college baseball’s top catcher! Caden, your hard work, professional mentality, leadership, and elite performance behind the plate have earned you this well-deserved recognition. The entire Coastal Carolina baseball family – past and present – celebrates this incredible achievement. No one is more deserving. Well done, Caden,” wrote head coach Kevin Schnall.
